SITE TOUR: The Texas Association of Counties Building

“Like building a ship in a bottle.” GSC Principal Tom Cornelius explained as he led a small team on a technical tour of the nearly complete building.

Built four floors down and four floors up, this project is constructed on an incredibly tight downtown lot. We wound around the four floors of the intricate underground parking garage and learned about the many challenges and solutions. The façade will be a masterful mix of materials (yellow Texas Brick, metal, and endless glass, to name a few) and a clever combination of historic architecture and modern design.  The second-story terrace provides a fun alternate entrance, a superb venue for outdoor gatherings, and draws even more light into the second floor. Thanks to walls of windows everywhere, there is a surplice of endless daylight and outstanding views from every angle.

We discussed the doors, floors, ceilings, and many other components of this complicated project and instilled the importance of close collaboration and strong communication among everyone involved. This downtown gem is going to be a beautiful new space for tenants to move into this spring!
