Schreiner University Loftis Center

KERRVILLE, TX

Astronomy and wildlife biology are a vital part of the curriculum at Schreiner University. The Loftis Center combines the teaching of the stars and plains on a secluded Hill Country property. GSC utilized a traditional dog trot design with circulation separating the academic classroom from the research lab. An outdoor, 1,735 SF classroom and breezeway surround 2,115 SF of conditioned instructional space, creating a covered sit-down porch to remove muddy boots prior to stepping inside. Located down a path from the luminous pollution of Loftis and the city of Kerrville, the 16-foot diameter observatory is nestled on a hilltop ready for classwork and stargazing parties.
