The Westlake Retail and Office Center on Bee Cave Road is a multitenant building consisting of a bank on the first floor and mixed-use retail and office spaces on the second floor. The building volume breaks from the traditional rectangular shape in order to respond to the site constraints. GSC used creative design solutions to preserve functional efficiency and aesthetic integrity while working closely with strict development codes and other site specific restrictions.
One of these restrictions was the presence of multiple heritage trees that offered natural design elements to the project, providing much needed shade from the Texas sun. A parking garage was designed below the building, responding to the limited site area and creatively using the dramatic sloping site as a naturally formed entrance. A secondary drive, consisting of three lanes, wraps around the southeast corner of the building to provide access to the drive through bank tellers on the east side of the building.
